Engaging frontline employees in transportation safety at Anglo American

Anglo American is one of the world’s largest mining companies with over 170,000 employees worldwide.

In 2011, a group-wide transportation safety audit was conducted to assess the company’s safety performance and ultimately help them to achieve their vision of Zero Harm. One of the audit’s main recommendations was an urgent need to address attitudes and behaviours regarding transportation safety.

Our consultants were asked to develop a programme of activity that would engage the various audiences across the business. Following the leadership engagement programme, it was important to equip the leaders with the means to involve workers ‘at the coal face’ in a conversation about the risks and helping to shift safety mindsets at all operations.
